Life at Kafakumba is a revolving door of visitors in and out – some coming to discover the secrets of aloe vera or bee-keeping; some coming out of curiosity from what they have heard; some coming because they want to be a part of what God is doing here and others…well, just here to see Grandma and enjoy Africa. Today was one of those rare days when there was no activity but exits in the revolving door. One group that was here left. My neice, nephew and their friend left. The house is strangely quiet now.
This morning, I continued my chapel series on prayer by speaking on “Healing Prayer.” As I prepared, I sensed that God wanted me to open it up to a practice of prayer – not just teaching about it. So I gave a 15 minute introduction to it and then asked how many would like to be prayed for that they might be healed. About half of the 100 or so that were there raised their hand. I knew that I couldn’t pray for them individually, so I asked everyone who didn’t have their hand up to put their hand on someone else’s shoulder. Once everyone had at least one hand on their shoulder, I invited the congregation to begin praying. It was an amazing experience for me as I joined the crescendo of voices crying out to God on behalf of others’ healing. As I prayed for God’s power to come powerfully in that place, I sensed the presence of the Holy Spirit and continued praying. I didn’t look at my watch (no comments from those of you whom I have kept overtime in worship before!!) because I did not want to interrupt the flow of the Spirit. This must have continued about 20 minutes then the prayer became a song. It was clear that God had been at work! I anticipate the stories of healing that people will share. Thank you for praying for us!
I had a second experience of God’s power today, too. The Spiritual Leadership Class that I am teaching to the Seniors was one that I did not feel fully prepared for. I had an idea to teach them about Emotionally Healthy Spirituality so introduced the topic and asked them if they thought it might be useful. They graciously consented so I began. It was one of those times, when you sense the Spirit taking over and you leave your own agenda. Even though I ended up teaching something that I hadn’t prepared to teach, it was clear to me from their questions and obvious engagement that this was what they needed to hear. Again, thank you for praying for us!
In talking with John and Kendy, it appears favorable on the possibilities of one of the benefactors who came with Crown Ministry financially helping at Kafakumba. They have already invested about $150,000 here. Please pray that this new gift is realized. The world economy woes have clearly effected Kafakumba and the businesses that are struggling to get off the ground. I believe this is a work of God so I ask you to pray that God will continue to sustain it. Thank you!

Hey, Nate, I’m really enjoying your daily reporting. I’ll share these with my Mary/Martha Circle tonight when they meet at my house. I love stories about the power of prayer. It always helps me when I feel like my prayers are so uninspiring. (Is that a word?) By the way, Dan Walker did very well on Sunday. I think the response was good.
